Chapter 11

Emi and Lily soon found their way back to the room. As they turned the final corner, their came face to face with the mob of students looking up and down the list of test scores, and various cries of both joy and sorrow.

Lily called out, "Hey! Shayde! How'd Emi do?"

Shayde and Mitsuki made their way out of the crowd, and joined up with the other two girls. Mitsuki smiled at Emi, and said "Go see for yourself."

The crowd was already beginning to thin as they walked forward, Emi shaking slightly from her nerves. The smiles on Shayde and Mitsuki's faces weren't exactly comforting her either.

They soon found the paper, and Emi scanned the paper for her name, starting from the bottom, where she expected to find herself. As she worked her way up the list, her eyes opened wider as they read higher. Finally she reached her name - at the top of the list. She turned around to face the other three, stunned, as they smiled at her.

"Congrats Emi. Wow. You did good, better than I did at least." Lily laughed, self-mockingly.

"Yeah, seriously. Lily did the worst in our class - she barely got any of the questions right."

"Oh, be quiet, sis. Seriously. You didn't do too much better!" Lily fired back.

"Yeah I did. Middle of the road, thank you very much. Of course, Mitsuki over here..."

Mitsuki blushed slightly, "Oh come on, that wasn't that big of a deal."

"Sure it is!" Lily laughed, "You see Emi, they use the same test every year. Mitsuki here scored the highest in the past 5 years. Your score... wow. That's pretty close."

Emi blushed and backed off a little. "Really? I did that well?"

"Yeah! Come on now! Let's relax, Ms. Top-of-her-Class!" Lily grabbed Emi by the wrist and pulled her away.

"Wait... don't we have another class first?"

Unnoticed to Lily or Emi, Shinji was looking at the list of test grades. His eyes started, similarly, where he expected to find his name - the top of the list. After all, he didn't need to take the test - he already knew that he was the best at this. All he cared about was learning in the areas he wasn't perfect in yet. His mouth dropped as he saw his name, not at the top, but just below it, in second. And to top it off, it was Amelia Karasuma, a name he had never hoped to see or hear again. Memories and tales flashed through his head as his stare pierced straight through the posted paper. He wouldn't stand for this, oh no he wouldn't. Laughing slightly to himself, he left to release his stress.

Mituski and Shayde just looked at each other, shrugged, and followed Lily.
